The Luso-American Development Foundation is a private, financially independent Portuguese institution, created in 1985. Its main goal is to contribute towards Portugal's development by providing financial and strategic support for innovative projects by fostering cooperation between Portuguese and American civil society. Centro de Estudos Geográficos

 Migration, Cities and Minorities Research Unit  (CEG-MCM)

 The Migration, Cities and Minorities Research Unit belongs to the University of Lisbon’s Centro de Estudos Geográficos. The research unit is made up of researchers, assistants and international consultants. It is responsible for a series of research and applied research projects in the fields of migration, urban change and urban governance in Europe (with a special emphasis on Portugal), migration and regional development, and diasporic and transnational communities. The Centro de Estudos Geográficos is dedicated to theoretical development and research in the areas of urban planning, risk prevention and the definition of land-use and sector-specific policy. It includes the following scientific areas: human geography, regional geography, physical and environmental geography, geo-ecology and a taskforce on coastal and river dynamics. High Commission on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities (ACIME)

 The High Commission on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities, under the tutelage of the Portuguese Prime-Minister, is an interdepartmental body providing support and acting as an advisory body to the government on immigration and ethnic minority issues.  Its mission is to foster the integration of immigrants and ethnic minorities into Portuguese society, to ensure the participation and involvement of associations representing immigrants, social stakeholders and social welfare institutions in defining policy on social integration and the fight against social exclusion, as well as following up on the application of legal instruments preventing and prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, colour, nationality and ethnic origin. Centro de Estudos Sociais

Núcleo de Estudos das Migrações 

The Migration Studies Research Unit belongs to the University of Coimbra’s Centro de Estudos Sociais. The research unit has undertaken analyses in the following areas: Portuguese emigration in the context of international migration, past experienced and current trends, immigration to Portugal, immigrants’ economic integration and particularly their participation in the informal labour market as a pivotal element in their social integration and the emergence of a transnational perspective on current and past migratory flows.  Visit: http://www.ces.uc.pt/nucleos/migracoes/apresentacao.php

Gabinete de Investigação em Sociologia Aplicada - SociNova Migration

 SociNova Migration belongs to the Universidade Nova de Lisboa’s SociNova - Gabinete de Investigação em Sociologia Aplicada. The work undertaken by this research unit is concentrated on the following areas: immigrants’ impact on demographic systems, ethnic tourism: cultural production and urban impacts, civic participation and the political inclusion of immigrants, immigrants and the knowledge-based society, colonialism, post-colonialism and ethnicity, the construction of the Lusophone community and transnational fluxes and identity.
