Coastal and Fluvial Systems: Dynamics, Environmental Changes and Management (SLIF)

The present group succeeds to DILIF, adding a greater number of young researchers. It has 4 senior researchers and 11 young researchers, 3 of them are concluding their PhD thesis during 2008. The others are in the framework of research projects, some of them related to MsC thesis. The strategic domains of research are: (i) dynamics of physical systems; (ii) climatic and environmental changes; (iii) resources, risks and environmental sustainability; (iv) management.
Research organization: (i) 2 research projects (FCT; POCI/CTE – GEX/59643/2004; PTDC/CTE-GEX/70448/2006); (ii) 5 PhD projects (UO financed); (iii) 4 industry projects. New national and international research projects will be submitted with the major subjects related to beach dynamics and longshore drift modelling, definition and implementation of a multidisciplinary coastal monitoring network, evolution of alluvial plains and floods in urban areas.
In the last 3 years, SLIF researchers participate in the following research and industry projects: (i)GEOTARIF - POCTI/CTA/39427/2001; (ii) POCI/CTE/GEX/58120/2004; (iii) PNPOT - National Programme on Managemente Policy (Progr.Nac. Política de Ord. Território), Min. Amb., do Ord Território e do Desenv. Regional (2003 e 2005); (iv) GIZC – Contribution to the Integrated National Coastal Zone Management (Bases para a Estratégia da Gestão Integrada da Zona Costeira Nacional), Min. Amb., do Ord.Território e do Desenv. Regional (2006 e 2007).
During 2007 the reseachers published: 6 articles in peer national and international journals, 2 books, 4 chapters in books and 12 papers in conference proceedings, 6 of those in international meetings.
